Pediatric Dentistry at The Dental Studio in Burnaby
Children require specialized dental care and gentle touch. Many oral hygiene habits are formed in early childhood, which is why it is important to instill in children the importance of a good oral hygiene routine. In addition, the baby teeth serve as placeholders for the adult teeth and play an important role in a child’s speech and development. In fact, we recommend that children have their first dental visit within six months of their first tooth erupting. At The Dental Studio, our dentist, Dr. Lisa Tran and our professional staff love kids and are dedicated to making your child’s visit memorable and relaxing.
Many children may be nervous about going to the dentist. This is why we try to make the child’s visit as comfortable as possible. We find that explaining what is going to happen at each step of their visit helps to alleviate fears and anxieties. We are also eager to answer any questions the parents may have and provide guidance on how to establish that oral hygiene routine for their young ones.
If you find that your child is anxious about going to the dentist, it is actually best to bring them in more often. This may seem counterintuitive, but if regular appointments for cleanings and exams are maintained, there is less likelihood that dental problems which require more invasive treatments will be necessary. Eventually your child will get more comfortable in the dentist’s chair, and may even begin to look forward to their visits!
In addition to regular dental visits, you can support your child in developing healthy oral hygiene habits by making daily brushing and flossing fun. Playing a favourite song or making a game out of it will make brushing seem like less of a chore. As always, if you have any questions or concerns about your child’s teeth please feel free to contact us!
